Meat markets and butchers listed in directories and maps, 1873-1940 Also please visit the grocery stores page, because some grocery stores also employed butchers or in some cases were run by butchers, but sometimes they're not listed in the business directories that way. 1873 Atlas of Luzerne County Schwabe, M., butcher, South Heberton, P.O. Upper Lehigh The bills at right came from Charlie Stumpf; they're dated in the 1890s, but Schwabe was already in business as a cattleman and butcher in 1873. 1886-1888 city directory Meat stores in business listings: Ebert, William, meat market, 55 S. Lorenz are from the Freeland Tribune. Neither was listed in these directories at the time.
