[Charlie is sharing a group of photos of D. S. & S. locomotives, along with brief descriptions and links to archival reference material held at Southern Methodist University. You will see that in the brief descriptions below there is a 3-digit hyphenated number: 2-8-0, or 2-6-0, or 4-4-0. Those numbers refer to the wheel arrangement of the locomotive. As explained in a Wikipedia article about the 2-8-0 configuration: "Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, 2-8-0 represents the wheel arrangement of two leading wheels on one axle, usually in a leading truck, eight powered and coupled driving wheels on four axles and no trailing wheels." A diagram in that article makes it clear what is meant, and then looking at the photos confirms the numbering for each of the locomotives shown below.]

This article in National Car & Locomotive Builder, June 1894, page 84, is in reference to D. S. & S. locomotives #18-21, of which two examples, #18 and #19, are shown below.

World’s largest Mogul Locomotive Builder, in: National Car & Locomotive Builder, June 1894, page 84. "The engraving on this page shows the general construction of a mogul locomotive recently built of the Delaware, Susquehanna & Schuylkill Railroad by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. It is the largest engine of this type ever built, its total weight in working order being 252,000 pounds, and the boiler being 72 inches in diameter …"
