Info: Mt Wellington is a volcanic peak located in the Auckland volcanic field of Auckland, New Zealand. It was formed by an eruption around 9,000 years ago. History of Mt Wellington, named by colonists after the Duke of Wellington, the native Maori people called it Maungarei and used it for centuries as a p? or hill fort. For further information about Mt Wellington look up this site (http://www.celticnz.co.nz/AucklandAllignment3.htm)

This site I have chosen is situated in Mt Wellington, Auckland my home town. On Sunday September 24th, I sat in the space on Mt Wellington for 5 hours observing the activities that was happening around the site. Their were kids playing and flying their kites, on the very top of the mountain a group of glider plane fanatics were flying their planes, over at the picnic benches where you park the cars couples and families were having lunch while a herd of cows were grazing right next to them, people jogging from the bottom of the mountain to the top and others just sitting on the top of the mountain watching down on to the town. Mt Wellington climate changes depending on where you are standing on the Mountain, sometimes it’s calm in one place and windy in another.

On the photos I have taken, is a site 50x50 long and wide. It’s the only flat area on the mountain and with the concrete wall on the side it looks like a work from Robert Smithson. The reason I chose this site is because I’m interested in how the winds play a big part on this mountain, the green of the grass is over taken by the grey of the concrete, the different activities that go on in this site, the change of the winds in different areas and the history of this site. There are many reasons why i chose this site.

PROPOSAL FOR SITE BY: Graham Mcintosh

I would realy like for you to build a set of White stairs leading half way up the cement wall. A bent staircase would be nice, but if it is too complicated a single/ small set of stairs would be fine. if this is too costly. a mock set of stairs (non functional) would be fine as longs as the photo documentation looks convincing.

i would like the stairs to look as if they are being unearthed from the ground
