SITE : Carnegie Library

The space is located on the second floor on the Carnegie Library. I’m interested in working with this space because it’s so isolated which creates a huge contrast from the newly renovated first floor. For more pictures and info of the library, you can go to http://www.clpgh.org/. Virtual tour for the first floor of the library, http://www.clpgh.org/locations/main/tours/virtualtour/.

PROPOSAL FOR SITE BY: Addy Mays

The library is normally quiet space. Not many actions(movements) or sound is going on. It’s hard to find any energy in that space. It is also stressful place to me or to all of students. The interesting thing that I found out, is different environment between my site(skate board park) and this site.

My idea is creating some energy (actions and sounds) in that quiet space.

What do you need for this proposal?

Video camera, tripod(not really necessary), mobile phone, someone you can talk with and YOU.

What kind of sounds you need record?

There are no limited. Any noisy it can be happen at library but the library asked not to do. The sounds of phone ringing, conversation – loud voice (it doesn’t matter if that is not English), sounds of eating, trudge, rustle etc. You can add more sounds if you want.

What kind of actions you need record?

Your movements in that space. At first – From the entrance record the movements of your legs and feet till you get that place (documenting with camera- still shots). Since you get that place, making sounds with books(take the books out/ turn the pages of a book etc), talking with someone and eating. Recording all actions when you are making sounds (documenting with video camera).

What can you do with the sounds and actions?

Use the video editing program (I don’t have any idea which program is comfortable for you). Mixing the sound that you’ve recorded. When capturing a video clip, I would like to remove the recorded sound track. And import the mixed sound track to the video clip.
