A rookie cone race at my first practice

Do you have a favorite cheer or celebration?

Hittin' that whip

What is your "go-to" move on the field?

What is your "go-to" move on the field?

I used to throw a lot of blades and now I try to throw less blades but its probably still my thing.

What is your favorite Mr. Yuk memory (off-field)?

The journey from Pittsburgh to Tally last year is probably something I'll never forget. The cast of characters involved in that catastrophe really made that whole experience pretty hilariously wild.

What is your favorite memory of Mr. Yuk (on-field)?

I have a bunch of these it’s pretty hard to pick one. I think just finishing 2nd in the region in 2018 meant a lot to me because it felt like we had actually earned it. A huge growth from my freshman year in 2016 and sophomore year in 2017 where we finished 15th and 11th (I think) respectively and it really just made love that team so much more because we had worked hard for each other and it personally made me feel loved and appreciated.

Do you have a favorite cheer or celebration?

All of the baseball cheers make me pretty happy. I also am a big fan of the cheers that make no sense to outsiders (like the rumble cheer) because it’s like a joke sorta cheer we can be into, and you can’t usually explain them to other teams and have them appreciate them the way we do.

What was your first experience with Mr. Yuk?

I met Forman first day of O-week and we went to play mini. I remember thinking that Forman was probably the best player on the team and that we were in trouble. I started trying to learn how to handle after that day. (Love you forman you are much better now)

How can you tell if I'm in the zone?

If I'm in the zone I'll be very loud and energetic but focused. If you try to talk to me about something other than the game I'll probably just ignore you. Scoring and getting turns makes me super hype and I'll try to make sure everyone hears it.

What is your pre-game ritual?

I have a pre-tournament ritual but not really a pre-game one where I try to listen to a few specific songs in the morning but that's about it.

What is something your teammates probably don't know about you?

When I was a freshman I was worse than where literally all of them are at now.

If you didn’t do ultimate at CMU, what would you be doing?

Do you have a favorite cheer or celebration?

As the originator of Yukkin jacks, they may be my favorite. Good ol’ cold as hell WVU spawned the urge to do jumping jacks while chanting, “Mr” “Yuk” in sync. It was so effective Akron did it with us in the finals. Then we beat them 15-8. Unless you’re trying to lose the game by gassing yourselves, only start after both coaches have left the line.

What is your favorite Mr. Yuk memory (off-field)?

It’s honestly hard to pick. General tomfoolery and musical chairs during the winter banquet is my jam. Spring break is filled with plenty of disc activities, relaxation, and spur of the moment adventures. Long car rides filled with the Norby game and banter are surprisingly fond memories.

Memorable quote from a teammate?

"Word." - EricLi

How can you tell if I'm in the zone?

Both fists clenched if I or someone else does something sweet is a sure sign. According to Tad, my Dad does this too. I may need to change it up.

What is your favorite Mr. Yuk memory (on-field)?

Beating Pitt in the 2017 Showcase Game is hard to top. Playing under the lights and hearing the crowd in my ear was invigorating. Beating Ohio State and Penn State at Regionals, in 2018 and 2019 respectively, was also quite satisfying.

Is there a player you look up to?

I’ll start by saying Justin Abel has never been trash. Despite being surrounded by trash (including myself) for much of his college ultimate career, he was never too aloof to get a little dirty. Crazy ability and inspiring humility. Swap in Justin Abel for “What would Jesus do?"

What is your pre-game ritual?

As I like to say, a little nitrous in the tank never hurt. Caffeine is my new cheat-code, whether it’s Red Bull, pre-workout, or hotel Joe. Some shakes of dispensed gatorade with a gulp of water make up for the dehydration I’ve brought upon myself.

What is your "go-to" move on the field?

Flick shimmy into inside flick break. Trade secret, the key is to use your knee. Only a fool would bite on a shimmy involving only the shoulders and only a greater fool would bite on a backhand shimmy. Side note, this is why I have always been skeptical of the drill: “Levels”.

What was your first experience with Mr. Yuk?

I remember sending an email to Reid and he asked me what my prior experience with ultimate was. Since my high school team had a pretty questionable record, including losing to a Utah C team and being bageled, like a damn fool, I sent him a video of me laying out for a goal. Surprisingly I didn’t have a sarcastic nickname waiting for me when I arrived at pickup on the Cut.

If you didn’t do ultimate at CMU, what would you be doing?

I actually have no idea. Probably lift exclusively upper body until I weighed 185 lb and take Intramurals way too seriously. My freshman year I did complete the “Big Man on Campus” Bodybuilding.com program (while skipping every leg day), but only made it to 150lb. That second part is actually true too.

Bio

Ryan "Bryan" Harty. A lad with a dream. A top chef with a penchant for big ham. He lived in Foster's room before Foster ever did (it should be called Bryan's room). An expert volcano insurance salesman. Taught himself to lay out, and probably also to count to 6000. Liaison to Agent Upmy, Founder of the Space Force, and always able to keep his cool in a heated game of stack cup, even when his freakin' teammates keep freakin' breaking the freakin' rules. CMU CYPHERS

What is your favorite memory of Mr. Yuk (on-field)?

Joey Pickens yelling “Down,” being wrong, footblocking the guy who caught it, and throwing a shitty thumber so this unfortunate opponent had enough time to recover and get dunked on by Forman

What’s your favorite tournament Mr. Yuk has gone to?

Theodore Seuss Geisel Memorial Ultimate Tournament in Buffalo NY, on the very doorstop of Niagara Falls

What was your first experience with ultimate frisbee at CMU?

Pickup after playfair, I booled on the same team as Mr. Yuk luminary (and notorious mother lover) Alton Olson

"Borby" -Theo Gonzales-Tapley (EVIL quote)

Do you have a favorite cheer or celebration?

Ohhhhhhh, here we go Mr. Yuk let’s get a hole-in-one, let’s be the number one, yeah let’s win

Is there an ultimate player you look up to?

Justin Forman- he hustled so hard to grind his feeble bones into the dust that he now is. He would lay out like superman and hit the ground like Jesus Christ Superstar.

How can you tell if I'm in the zone?

Slap me on the back and show em your mad dawg face

What is your "go-to" move on the field?

Foot block & Beat Jasper upline ehehehehheheheheh

"Play it Cool", Getting post-midnight snapchats from King Richard after he left the party to run a mile on the track

What was your first experience with ultimate frisbee at CMU?

Supposedly I was skied by Jasper when I first played pickup on the Cut. This of course is nonsense given that I have skied Jasper every other time we have matched up.

What is your "go-to" move on the field?

The double move. Just gotta chop your feet, turn your hips 90 degrees and stare your defender in the eyes. If that doesn't break their ankles, I don't know what will.

Most memorable quote from a teammate?

"A little rain never hurt nobody." (Hail the size of almonds was falling from the sky)

What was your favorite memory of Mr. Yuk (on-field)?

After Tally Classic in 2018 my body was so beat up I had to lie down for a solid 20 minutes because everything hurt too much to move. We had played UMass to 2 points and were up 8-3 on UNCW. Even though we didn't prevail in either game, I was happy because it felt like we had finally made it to the big leagues. Mr. Yuk was officially good.

Do you have a favorite cheer or celebration?

Ain't nobody fuckin' with my Kwang Gang

What was your favorite memory of Mr. Yuk (off-field)?

The ride down to Tally Classic in 2018. Just to give you a taste: the car broke down and we had to be ferried by two drivers in sedans (one of which had no seats so we had to sit on the floor of the car) who had some crazy experiences with brass knuckles, cocaine, and hookers that they were more than happy to share with us.

Was or is there an ultimate player you look up to? (on or off Yuk)

It's gotta be Jasper. The man is a workhorse and always gives 100%.
