Students in this course will plan and carry out the 2004 CMU Film Festival, tentatively scheduled for April 23-25, 2004. The theme this year will be "The Vietnam War in Film," and may include both feature films and documentaries about the war and its aftermath. Students in this course will preview and choose the films to be shown. They will also coordinate publicity and logistics for the festival. The course will meet for one hour on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for planning and discussion, as well as one evening per week for film screenings. Assignments will include a number of readings about the Vietnam War and its portrayal in films, and students will write a short paper at the conclusion of the festival about their experiences planning and putting on the festival. Attendance at the entire three-day festival will be mandatory. Concurrent or previous enrollment in 79-232, "Vietnam: America's Lost War" would be helpful, but is not required.
