Mid-semester break is gaming time for the OGS, and we once again took over the Hunt Library computer cluster for some large-scale gaming. Two Xboxes were linked together for massive four-on-four games in Slayer and King of the Hill ladders. Congratulations to team Goat (Matt Adereth, Ian Lawler, Mike Katz, and Alex Perry) who won both ladders. They received two Xbox games, Bloodwake and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, courtesy of Microsoft. We also gave away some posters, t-shirts, and other goodies courtesy of Microsoft and Kensington.
Thanks to Dan Cox for providing an Xbox, to Andres Perez-Bergquist for controllers, to Microsoft for pizza and prizes, to Kensington for prizes, to our officers for support in running the tournament, and to all the teams and players who showed up for providing a great day of gaming!
We had some amazing gameplay at the Tekken Tag tournament today. Congratulations to Jan and Eli, the first and second place winners respectively. There were 24 participants in the double elimination ladder, and over 30 people present watching the matches. Many thanks to Julian and Charley for letting us borrow their PS2s for the event.
The OGS played host on Saturday to one of its most well-attended tournaments yet. Sixty people on 30 teams showed up for a double-elimination tournament on three consoles and three TVs at the same time. Stock matches were played in a best-of-three format between teams of two people, until Emilie Yang and Jeff Yang (no relation) defeated Ali Al-Battashi and Steve Wasik in the championship. Emilie and Jeff took home a set of four GameCube controller extension cables, while Ali and Steve won an Electronics Boutique gift card. Thanks to everyone for showing up, and to those who lent us their GameCubes to help things run more smoothly!
While we did play DDR and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 during this event, the highlight of the afternoon was when Para Para Paradise was set up, and everyone in the room started waving their hands in the air. Pictures and movies from this event are available via FTP from OGS Alpha (ogsalpha.res.cmu.edu, user: ogs, pass: cmuogs).
The Online Gaming Society (OGS) is a recognized student organization at Carnegie Mellon University. The OGS receives funding from Student Senate and from members in pursuance with club policies and by-laws. Please direct any questions about the club or this web site to ogs@andrew.cmu.edu.
