From: Kathleen Newman (kn4@andrew.cmu.edu)
Date: Tue Feb 25 2003 - 18:08:36 EST

You are invited to attend a one-night only reading of LYSISTRATA
Monday, March 3rd
Quiet Storm Coffeehouse (5430 Penn Avenue)
8:00 PM
Admission is free (with a suggested $5.00 donation for The Quiet Storm and
Code Pink---a women's peace group)

Lysistrata tells the story of a group of peace-minded Greek women who
object to the Peloponnesian War. In a radical move they pledge to
withhold sex from their husbands until a peace treaty has been achieved.
In this 45-minute condensed version of the play a group of notable
Pittsburgh men and women---including Adrienne Wehr, Indira Nair, Karla
Boos, Stephanie Batiste, Jeff Carpenter and Phat Man Dee---will read the
play.

This reading is part of the world wide "Lysistrata Project." On March
3rd, which is International Women's Day, women all over the world will
read Lysistrata in a global attempt to forestall the war in Iraq. We
invite you to add your voice to the cry for peace, drink some coffee, buy
a t-shirt, and enjoy a lively reading of Lysistrata---the oldest anti-war
comedy in the world.

This reading is being organized by Heather Arnet, Director of Development
for Pittsburgh City Theatre, and Kathy Newman, professor of English at
CMU.
