(PWR) local Justice for Janitors event TONIGHT

hey PWR,

there has been a large janitors' strike in the Boston
area and many USAS groups have been active in support
of the workers. Pittsburgh's Justice for Janitors campaign
will be holding a solidarity event tonight, downtown,
where the same greedy contractor, UNICCO, works.
In addition to supporting labor at a critical time,
this will be a good opportunity to do outreach for
our local Living Wage Campaign.

I hope PWR can send some people downtown.

Come to the meeting at 5pm tonight in the Pake room
to talk about this local campaign, international
work, and future meetings.

Also, if I forget to bring it up at a meeting, the APA
is running another Organizing for Our Future activist
training on Nov. 9. Topics will include Research for
Activists, Legal Issues for Actions, Non-violent
Civil Disobediance/Direct Action, and Dealing with
Isms in the Movement (Racism, Sexism...).

And the Voices in the Wilderness Mirrors of Truth
tour (about US policy on Iraq) will be at CMU next
wednesday, the 16th, in Breed Hall (MM103) at 7:30pm.
And watch out for an email about this weekend's activist
potluck, 6pm this sunday, hosted by PSA.

Support 5,000 Striking Janitors!

Prevent local janitors from being replaced!

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10

8:30 - 9:00 p.m.

PPG PLAZA

5,000 SEIU janitors in Boston are on strike because they need health care
for their families. Their employer is UNICCO, a Boston based cleaning
contractor. Here in Pittsburgh, UNICCO cleans the PPG Plaza Office
complex. Pittsburgh's janitors have pledged their support including
honoring a possible Boston Picket line here at PPG. UNICCO's response has
been to hire replacement workers and threaten the jobs of local SEIU janitors.

WE NEED TO SEND A MESSAGE TO UNICCO
THAT PITTSBURGH WILL NOT STAND FOR STRIKE BREAKERS
