This page has been set up to provide extra help to students in the IDS program as they seek to master various development technologies. For each topic there are links to helpful web sites and in many cases there are (or will be) additional links to class labs and lectures that are relevant to the topic. The listing of materials here is by no means comprehensive; I have simply selected materials and sites that I believe are worthwhile. If students would like to suggest additional materials, please feel free to send me your suggestions via e-mail.

Help with FTP Clients: Tutorials on FTP clients for the Mac and PC are listed here.

HTML: HTML tutorials, references, and information on HTML tools are linked to this page.

JavaScript: JavaScript tutorials and code libraries can be found on this site.

Active Server Pages: ASP is a Microsoft technology used to make web pages more dynamic. This page contains links to a number of helpful tutorial sites.

CGI/Perl Programming: This page is an ongoing effort to provide links to sites dealing with CGI and/or Perl programming. in progress.

SQL: SQL stands for "structured query language" and is used to create, manipulate and control relational databases.

Databases: This page contains sites to help students understand various issues related to relational databases and data management. forthcoming.

Java: forthcoming.

Comparing Apples and PCs: There is a lot of bias in most of the discussions of Mac vs. PC. I am reposting a little blurb from Stanford Computing which lays out the differences between the two platforms pretty objectively.

Bandwidth Explained: forthcoming.

Computer Terms: forthcoming.

These pages are relevant for the Fall 1999 semester.
