48-575 Design/Build: Solar Decathlon

This elective will be dedicated to the construction of the 800 square foot, solar-powered Pittsburgh Synergy house to be entered into the Solar Decathlon competition in the Fall of 2005. Students are required to have their own basic equipment - steel-toed work boots, hard hat, safety glasses, tool belt, 20 oz framing hammer, 25 foot tape measure and speed square. The time commitment for this class is a minimum of nine hours per week on the construction site - three hours each on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon.
