This course provides an overview of modern conceptual techniques for process synthesis, analysis and design. Special attention is directed toward representing the problem in a useful and efficient manner ranging from hand sketches and diagrams to mathematic programming formulations. Example topical areas include synthesis of heat exchanger networks, ideal and azeotropic distillation systems, chemical reactor networks, reactive separation processes and microscale chemical synthesis.
