A two-semester course sequence (82-161, 82-162) for beginning students emphasizing the development of communicative language proficiency: oral practice, aural comprehension, reading, writing, structural analysis, and language learning resource center work with audio and video tapes. Also a study of cultural aspects of Italy. The elementary level is designed to help students learn to reflect upon and draw upon strategies used by good language learners in their second language study. Note: This is a 12 unit course. A 9 unit version of this course that does not fulfill DCR3 credits may be offered during a semester for Music students only.
