Prerequisites: 90-762, Financing Economic Development I The course is offered over a period of two semesters. The first semester focusing on financing community economic development, with emphasis on how to implement development projects such as housing, commercial, retail, etc., mostly through community based organizations. The second semester will cover financing of larger, mostly publicly-sponsored economic development projects. Students are highly encouraged to complete both courses to have full exposure to development finance. The course will examine some of the underlying causes of economic decline, explore avenues for development, identify resources for community, city-wide and regional economic development. Various funding programs for development and a history of their impact will be examined. In addition, there will be extensive discussion on the roles of foundations and financial institutions in economic development. Notable persons in the field of economic development will be requested to make presentation about their respective efforts to undertake economic development.
