This course surveys the art of conducting in both its technical and artistic aspects. Posture, baton technique and rehearsal procedures, as well as leadership, psychological profile, communication skills and basic requirements for professional conductors are stressed. Score study is emphasized, covering a major symphonic composition plus accompaniment works. The latter include opera conducting, concerti and an overview of basic ballet technique. The course is videotaped, and classes include critique and analysis of each student's progress.
