Due to my interest in the field of Physics, I am working on the fundamental aspect of magnetophoresis (MNPs). Owning to their high surface area to volume ratio and superparamagnetic property, MNPs are widely used in separation processes. However, the theoretical concept that has been developed so far is not sufficient to explain the cooperative magnetophoretic behaviors of MNPs especially after their surface functionalization. In my project, I am trying to figure out the contribution of magnetic field lines on the magnetophoretic motion of MNPs. In addition, the role of particle interaction potentials in the acceleration of separation time is studied in conjunction with the hydrodynamic effect. It is expected that this research will provide physical insights on the magnetophoretic displacement of nanoparticles under low field gradient which subsequently set the foundation for the design of magnetic separation processes.
