Statement of Purpose

The Progressive Student Alliance (PSA) strives to promote awareness and participation in progressive political activism.

PSA may not endorse any candidates or political party. At no point in time shall this be construed to be a limit upon the freedom of the members of the organization to engage in political activity apart from PSA.

PSA recognizes the importance of process to social change and are committed to the development of non-hierarchical and anti-authoritarian relationships, from interpersonal relationships to group dynamics. Therefore, PSA shall organize itself collectively and be committed to the principle of consensus decision making and the development of a direct, participatory democratic process that is transparent to its membership.

Membership

There are no qualifications for membership other than an interest in progressive activism.

Officers

PSA is a non-hierarchical organization, therefore there exist no true officers. However, the organization shall designate one or more persons to be Representatives to the University, to handle all affairs as needed with Student Government and the University.

Decision Making

Decisions on how to run PSA are made by full consensus. PSA shall decide the extent that members are able to block proposals using this process.

Proposals must be announced the active membership of the organization. A post to assocs.psa shall be considered sufficient announcement of a proposal.

While school is in session, consensus is not reached unless 48 hours have passed after the submission of the proposal. If school is not in session, consensus is not reached unless 3 weeks have passed.

Amendment

Like all decision making, amending is done by discussion and consensus.

Non-Discrimination

PSA shall be committed to the principle of human equality, and shall not discriminate, including discrimination based upon race, gender, age, class or sexual orientation. We are committed to building diversity within our locality. PSA strives to exceed the standards of non-discrimination as recognized by the University in its statement of assurance.
