80-818 Seminar on Epistemology

Units:9-12
Department:Philosophy
Cross-listed:80-518
Related URLs:http://www.hss.cmu.edu/philosophy

This seminar focuses on prominent issues in contemporary epistemology. Standard topics in the field will be studied in the light of recent research in artificial intelligence, cognitive science as well as social and decision sciences. Topics considered in recent years included 'local' theories of induction, the problem of how to represent belief and how to justify belief change, as well as issues related to the viability and structure of current theories of 'radical probabilism.' The seminar discusses not only issues in 'classical' epistemology, but also more recent naturalistic and pragmatists approaches.
