This seminar will explore urban design as a discipline within the profession of architecture and the role architects can play in the continuing evolution of our cities. This seminar title, Felicity/city, is intended as a general expression of the goal of urban designers: the evolution of the good city in which the inhabitants are happy as individuals in relation to their environment and society; in which the spaces and places are appropriate in specifically local, physical, and cultural terms; in which social interrelationships are based on traditions that are at once historical and aspirational; and in which civic pride is related to a language of local beauty.
