(PWR) Nickel & Dimed Event - great opportunity for our community

Friends,

As you may know, all of the plays and musical theatre works produced by the
School of Drama this season explore socio-economic relationships in today's
post Enron world. As part of this, we have planned an event around the
recent bestseller, Barbara Ehrenreich's "Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting
By In America". The event was inspired by Liz Bradley's idea worked
around a reading of the dramatic version of the book.

We will give away 100 copies of the book to students on January 21 and 22,
along with reduced rate tickets ($5) for Barbara Ehrenreich's March 29 Drue
Heinz Lecture at the Carnegie Music Hall and have a reading of the dramatic
version on February 23.

(DETAILS BELOW)

Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed, a New York Times Notable Book and a
fixture on the best seller list, documents Ehrenreich's stints earning
minimum wage as a waitress, house cleaner and health care aid in three
American cities.

Praised as a "tour de force" of undercover journalism, and a "brilliant
on-the-job report from the dark side of the boom", piercing social
criticism is given a profoundly human face in Joan Holden's dramatic
adaptation of the book. The play has been professionally staged in Seattle
and at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles last spring.
