Here is how some of our main obstacles were tackled:
  • If we use a wristband, how will we deal with sweat?

We will use a polyester lycra blend that is known to absorb moisture and then release it into the air. We will also have a "dry cleaning" type program for people's comfort, where wristbands can be sent to be cleaned every six months or so.

  • How will we make sure it is not accidentally activated?

The device works through two controls. One sensor is on the outside and activates the device when it is touched. Another is on the inside, against the skin, and changes the volume, beats-per-minute, song, etc. by judging movement against your skin.

  • What direction does the user put on the wristband, and how do they know which is which?

This will graphically indicated in decoration on the wristband.

  • What affordances can we give to the wristband to tell someone to touch and turn it?

We will try to indicate this also in the graphics on the bands through metallic color and form.

  • How extensively should we develop the interface between the user and the music?

We have decided rather extensively due to the rather uncertain, technologically unfriendly nature of our users.

  • How many options should be available to the user?

A limited amount. Because they will be using it while teaching, a large range of options will not be needed. The devices being fully customizable seemed the best route.

  • How customizable should this product be?

Very much so. We would like not only the wristbands to be customizable, but also the type of system one purchases, whether it be with no projector and just the console and wristbands for a small facility, or whether it be multiple projectors, and several consoles and sets of wristbands for a large one.

  • Why the name Mueva?

Mueva means "move" in Spanish. Through our system, we hope to Move Fitness Forward, with a little help from the new technology available in the twenty-first century.
