Catania16.JPG

Catania16.JPG: Another eruption cone in the Silvestri area. There are more than 200 such (named) cones on the mountain.
Most of Etna's mass was created by these slow-moving lava flows. The cataclysmic eruption of 1669 reached and buried parts of Catania (15 miles away). It also reached the coast and significantly enlarged the land area there.
