Agrigento20.JPG

Agrigento20.JPG: An ancient olive tree. To the left is an altar at the entrance to the original sacred site where as many as 100 oxen could be sacrificed at one time.
The Greeks (conveniently) believed that the gods preferred the fat, entrails, and skin; these bits were burned as the offering. The rest (steaks, flanks, etc.) were roasted and eaten in the celebration that followed sacrfices.
