Student Tutoring at the Wesley Center

One of our more extensive projects, we have been doing tutoring for the Wesley Center since the Fall of 2006. The main goals of this project are to design and then teach a curriculum to students about basic computer skills in an attempt to foster familiarity with the computer. We have currently developed a curriculum for elementary school students which discusses some of the basic ways to use the computer within a desktop environment, as well as some specific activities designed to help the students gain experience in using word processors and presentation software. We also discuss how to use the Internet as a resource, and cover Internet safety as well. In the past we have used Carnegie Mellon's Cyber Academy software in our discussion of Net Safety.

Currently we are working on a revision for the elementary school curriculum based upon our experiences when tutoring using our first curriculum. We have also begun work on a middle school level curricula, and plan to teach both curriculums at the Wesley Center next semester.
