Computer Redistribution Project

This project, which was started in the Spring of 2007, attempts to make use of the many computers which are being thrown out around campus. Departments are continually updating their hardware and many times the old hardware is simply discarded, even though it is still working. We actively seek out working computers, or parts, which could then be redistributed to those who are in need of them. We are willing to accept nearly any working computers or parts, regardless of age. In the future we intend to extend our collection efforts beyond the departments at CMU to include other campuses, local businesses, and even individual donations.

If you are able and willing to make a donation, feel free to fill out a form found under the Donate Computers link.

Past Donations

In Spring 2007 we were able to generously receive a donation through the ECE Department of about 10 computers, which were donated to the local non-profit Wireless Neighborhoods. They, in turn, were able to get those computers to local non-profits or schools who were in need of them.

In the Fall of 2007, we salvaged approximately 7 computers from the Psychology Department and are currently in the process of deciding on which organization to donate them to.
