Steel Framing Homework, rev. 2007.03.14

Due Date: 2007.04.03

Assignment

Each of you has obtained approximately 1,200 square feet of form deck and approximately 1,200 square feet of composite, cellular floor deck. Design a rectangular, steel-framed, two story structure with steel girders/ beams/ decking for the second floor framing and open web steel girders/ joists and decking for the roof. The scheme should utilize all of the decking with minimal waste. Do not show the enclosure - we are only interested in the framing at this point.

Using the analog drawing conventions introduced in class, compose a set of drawings on ANSI "B" (11" x 17") sheets containing the following drawings with all framing members, room labels, section marks, notes, dimensions and grid lines.

  1. A first floor plan showing the floor structure above and a second floor plan showing roof framing above at 1/4"=1'-0".
  2. Building section cut through the secondary structure at 1/4"=1'-0".
  3. Corner details - plan and 2 sections at 1 1/2"=1'-0".

Please submit your drawings to the designated flat file in the entrance of the Robert L. Preger Intelligent Workplace™.
