Mark Poepping Head IT Architect, Computing Services (http://www.cmu.edu/computing) EDDY Project Co-PI, CyLAB (http://www.cmu.edu/eddy) Carnegie Mellon As Head IT Architect for Computing Services, Mark is responsible for leading in definition of the long-range technology vision and mid-range architectural models that guide implementations for the central computing infrastructure at Carnegie Mellon. The vision combines technology issues for network, middleware, systems, and application services in the context of customer requirements in support of the mission of the University. In this role, Mark has been instrumental in the definition and instantiation of many key efforts, among them a project and portfolio management process for the division and creation of the Information Security Office. In recent years, Mark has also served as co-PI of the EDDY project - an effort to define an architecture and experimental base for orchestration and analysis of diagnostic and performance data agnostic and inclusive of domain-specific requirements (http://www.cmu.edu/eddy). This effort is now expanding into CyDAT, the Cybercenter for Diagnostics, Analytics, and Telemetry, an effort to advance the quality of tools and methods for situational awareness in distributed IT-enabled systems. In addition to internal responsibilities, Mark is a member and former chair of "Salsa", the Internet2 advisory committee on Security (http://security.internet2.edu) and is a charter member of "MACE", the Internet2 Middleware advisory group (http://middleware.internet2.edu). Mark joined Computing Services in 1996 as Director of Systems and Network Development, moving over from the Software Engineering Institute where he had served as Manager of Systems and Network Development in the Information Technology organization. While at the SEI, Mark participated on the charter team of four who formed the original mission and focus of the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) in 1988. Previous to joining the SEI, Mark was a systems programmer for AT&T Bell Laboratories, working on Large Systems UNIX in Naperville, Illinois. He has a B.A. in Mathematics from St John's University in Collegeville, Mn, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
