To celebrate the United States Army's entry into the video game market, the Carnegie Mellon University Online Gaming Society (OGS) will be holding an America's Army tournament. The tournament will be open to all members of the Carnegie Mellon community, and will be played using Carnegie Mellon's own network resources.
This event will take place on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2002 at 12:00 noon. Although OGS will be managing the logistics behind the tournament, games will be played on players' own computers.
A full schedule will be made available to registered players.
The OGS Tournament Coordinator is Kris Popendorf. Please direct any rules-related questions to Kris.
Our current plan is to have teams of four players each face off in multiplayer mode. Teams should register together, and designate a captain as their contact person. Note that the captain serves as the team's primary contact person in case of emergencies, but has no special role in match play.
We will open the tournament to users both on-campus and off-campus, but players are responsible for maintaining connectivity and minimal latency. If you are unsure whether your connection is suitable, please contact OGS staff. OGS is not responsible for issues pertaining to system compatibility, network connectivity, or latency, and reserves the right to expel players who create a disruption in game activity.
Pairings will be announced during the tournament. When teams are instructed to start, all players must join the specified game on the appropriate server within 15 minutes. If a team has not fully assembled by 15 minutes after their start time, they can either forfeit the match or begin to play shorthanded. Team members which arrive late are permitted to join games in progress, but we obviously discourage this practice.
Games will be monitored by referees. Any cheating or other unsportsmanlike conduct by a team member will be investigated by a referee. A breach of conduct by any team member will disqualify the entire team. Decisions by OGS referees are final and not subject to appeal.
No fees will be charged for this event.
Please register early to ensure your spot in the tournament. Team composition can be changed after the tournament by having the captain send e-mail to ogs@andrew. Please note that teams must consist of four people. If you would like to join the OGS mailing list, please let us know so that we can keep you informed of new events.
This registration form is made possible by Terry Watt of NetDiving.
Thank you for your interest!
