Debriefing Word Study

Thank you for participating in this study. The purpose of this study was to obtain normative information about word associations. Some of the words in the experiment had more than one meaning. We are interested in which meanings come to mind when you see a word with more than one meaning (Nelson, McEvoy, & Schreiber, 1998). It has been found that words with more than one affect processing in a first language and second language (e.g., Armstrong & Plaut, 2008; Boada, Sánchez-Casas, Gavilán, García-Albea, & Tokowicz, 2013; Eddington & Tokowicz, 2013; Elston-Güttler & Friederici, 2005; Rodd, Gaskell, & Marslen-Wilson, 2002). The associates collected from this study will be used in a word learning study which will examine how people learn and process words with more than one meaning.
