Matt has 20 years of experience as a science/engineering librarian. Prior to joining the faculty at Carnegie Mellon, he was the Team Leader for Library Services at the National Energy Technology Laboratory from 1989 through 1999 and an Assistant Science Librarian at the University of South Carolina from 1988 through 1989. Before studying to become a librarian, Matt served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear propulsion plant operator aboard the U.S.S. Mississippi (CGN-40). He has a Bachelors degree in Physics and a Masters degree in Library Science - both degrees are from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

Matt is also an Adjunct Professor at Clarion University's Department of Library Science and Judge of Elections for his local precinct. He enjoys presidential biographies, mysteries, sci-fi movies and war movies (Navy settings the most of course). He and his wife Jackie are permitted to share a home with their cats Lucy and Ethel.
