Engineering & Science Libraries Environment Guide

Collections: Library Homepage:  http://www.library.cmu.edu        NEW  website coming this fall!
At the Engineering & Science Library (4400 Wean Hall) you will find materials in the engineering fields of Biomedical, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Mechanical. In the sciences: Computer Science, Materials Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Robotics, as well as general science and engineering. Biology and Chemistry materials are held at the Mellon Institute Library (5000 Forbes Ave, 4th fl.).

Survival Basics:

Printing:    Your I.D. card has been encoded to enable you to print from computers in the library.  Each semester your I.D. account is replenished to permit up to 800 single-sided page copies (or 1600 double-sided copies).  If you need additional copies you may purchase those through the PlaidCa$h program. When the initial value is depleted, you can ‘recharge’ the card and reuse it indefinitely.

Photocopying:  Use PlaidCa$h to photocopy on campus (10 cents per copy); also accepts $1 and $5 dollar bills.

Book Loan Period:
Grad students:  90 days - 100 books - 1 renewal per book.

Renewals:  – don’t give us your money!  Use any of the three options to renew materials:
1. Click "User Self Service" in Cameo and follow instructions.
2. Send email to library-renew@cmu.edu. Include:
3. Bring the item and your Carnegie Mellon ID to the library circulation desk for extended renewals.

Interlibrary Loan:
Need materials that CMU does not own?  Request articles and books using our online ILLIAD ordering system.  Link is located on our homepage at the User Services section: http://www.library.cmu.edu/Services/ILL/
Registration is necessary the first time you use it.

EZ-Borrow:
Let’s you borrow books directly from other academic.  Search 40 regional libraries in one search. Can be faster than ILLIAD.

Local libraries you can borrow from (in person):
