CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY SPORTS ROUND UP

Women's Soccer (1-2-1, 0-0)

Results: Carnegie Mellon 2 Allegheny 2 OT

The Tartans tied Allegheny College in overtime, by a score of 2-2. Freshman Melissa McMarrow San Jose, Calif/Archbishop Mitty), and Susan Pevovar (Silverdale, Wash/Central Kitsap) scored first half goals for Carnegie Mellon. Naya Nigroch (Worcester, Mass/Worchester Academy) started the second half and the overtime period she had 8 saves.

Wilmington 6 Carnegie Mellon 1

Next the Tartans traveled to Wilmington College, one of the strongest programs in N.C.A.A. division three. Carnegie Mellon was defeated 6-1. Melissa McMarrow scored Carnegie Mellon's lone goal in the 86th minute. The goal was McMarrow's second of the week.

Men's Soccer (1-1, 0-0)

Results: Franklin & Marshall 4 Carnegie Mellon 3 OT

Freshman Matt Crummy (Gibsonia, Pa/Pine-Richland) led Carnegie Mellon back from a 2-0 second half deficit. Crummy scored his third goal of the season, with a shot from 10 yards out in the 64th minute. In the next 14-minutes, freshman Brian Henry (Pittsburgh, Pa/Chartiers Valley) and senior Doug Jones (Herndon, Va/Thomas Wootton) scored two goals giving Carnegie Mellon a 3-2 lead. However F&M tied the game up with two minutes left in the second half and then scored the go ahead goal in the fourth minute of overtime.

Women's Volleyball (7-2, 0-0)

Results: Carnegie Mellon 3 Carnegie Mellon 3 Carnegie Mellon 3 Notre Dame of Ohio 0 St. Vincent's 0 Wooster 0

This weekend the Tartan's hosted Notre Dame College of Ohio, St Vincent's College, and the College of Wooster in a Quad Team Match. In the round robin tournament, The Tartans recorded three straight match victories. Stephanie Szobota (McDonald, Pa/Fort Cherry) leads the team with 103 kills after nine matches. Sara Putaro (Pittsburgh, Pa/Baldwin) averages 12 assists per game on the season.

Women's Tennis

Last weekend, Carnegie Mellon traveled to Philadelphia to participate in the Haverford College Women's Tennis Invitational Tournament. University Athletic Association player of the week, Junior Elisabeth Brown (Philadelphia, Pa/Central) captured the Flight one singles title. She defeated Alyssa Kennedy of Haverford 7-5, 6-1. Brown also teamed up with Anne Bosler (Allendale, S.C./Barnwell) to take the Flight one doubles title. Anne Bosler won the Flight three singles title. Jill Palermo (Willoughby, Ohio/Willoughby South) placed third in the Flight two singles division. Seniors Whitney Brooks (San Angelo, Texas /St. Stephen's) and Anika Amin (Harmony, Pa/Seneca Valley) took third place in the Flight three doubles bracket.
