Bob Perdziola, Biography

Robert Perdziola, earlier this year, designed sets and costumes for Cosi Fan Tutte with Opera Monte Carlo in Monaco and Garsington Opera in England; two separate productions by British director John Cox. Their production of Ariadne Auf Naxos originated in 1998 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and staged for San Francisco in 2002. He recently designed costumes for Cyrano at the Shakespeare Theatre in DC and sets and costumes for Le Spectre de la Rose in New York . In 2002 he debuted with the Metropolitan Opera designing costumes for Il Pirata with Renee Fleming. In the United States he has designed productions for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Skylight Opera Theatre, Glimmerglass Opera, and the Manhattan School of Music. In Germany he designed Gounod¹s Faust at the Niedersachsische Staatsoper Hannover. For dance he has designed sets and costumes for the San Francisco Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. His theatre work has included designs for Signature Theatre, Arena Stage, and the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington , DC . Mr. Perdziola is the recipient of two Helen Hayes Awards for Costume design (The Country Wife, Don Carlos) and the Irene Sharaff Young Master Award 2000. He is on the board of directors of the Tobin Foundation for Theatre Arts, which supports theatre design as a distinct and worthy art form.
