Digital Music Player

Final Design
Musical Album

The final design takes the form of a photo album and picture frame. These are products that our users interact with for similar reasons as they do music. Both photos and music bring back memories, make people feel connected and fill time. It is important for our digital music player to be a comforting part of its environment. The albums and frames are accepted within the users home because they can already be found there.

Simplicity of use is one of the strongest needs of an older demographic. The method of use must be recognizable and easy to understand. It must also accommodate the dexterity and sensory differences of the elder users.

We decided to make the music selection process very tangible. This will bridge the gap between the abstract concept of digital music selection and the need for simple comprehension. The music can be purchased in a store and inserted into pages in the album remote. By maintaning the physical and visual referance to album covers, users have a simple way of selecting music.

Opening the album remote activates the frame display and reveals all the album selections within. The user can then select a four album play list. Closing the album remote plays the first album added to the playlist. The user can see the feedback provided within the frame to monitor what selections have been made. Song tracks are visible for the album that is playing. Additional controls for use while the music plays are found on the cover of the album remote.
