 The system
interacts with housemates in order to improve the quality of “shared
living.” The interaction between the human and the agent is controlled
by the users. The agent responds only when it is called upon. This allows
users to maintain a sense of privacy, while still having a helpful agent
around, “available upon request.” It would be easily accessible,
through a “picture frame” in each room. The agent communicates
its intelligence by coordinating events and schedules between roommates
and keeping track of reminders. This allows housemates to find each other,
if necessary, without intruding on one another’s privacy. Messages
between roommates can be left with the agent, which will relay them to
the appropriate person. It improves the multiple roommate experience by
splitting grocery receipts and utility bills, and keeping track of monthly
payments for each individual. This keeps shared expenses distributed evenly,
reducing the burden of figuring out monthly payments between roommates.
A pre-determined price can be set for utilities, thereby allowing users
to control their monthly bills. With these capabilities, this human-agent
addresses the major needs of students who share living space and enhances
their experience of living together. Therefore, the video is entitled
        “Sharing Space Made Smart.”
