MIS 45-870

Spring, 2000--Mini 3, Prof. Sandra Slaughter

FTP Tips and Instructions

  1. Your team has been assigned an Andrew directory for your MIS 45-879 coursework.
    This directory is located at:

    /afs/andrew.cmu.edu/course/45/870/team##

Where ## is your team number. For example, Team 01 has a directory:
    /afs/andrew.cmu.edu/course/45/870/team01

  2. Team captains and web masters have been assigned full access rights to these directories. Everyone else in the class, and the world, can read and load your web pages, but only team captains and web masters can FTP files to their respective team directories. We can change access rights at the request of a team captain.

  3. We suggest that you create a quick and simple test file using FrontPage 2000 called index.htm that you can FTP to your team directory to ensure everything is working properly. You can browse your test file and your final web page by pointing at the URL listed for your team in the table above.

  4. To FTP files to your team directory, load WS_FTP and log in. In the right pane, which displays your Andrew home directory, click on the "ChgDir" button and type in your team's directory per 1 above. You can then go to the left pane and FTP files and directories from you local computer to your team directory in Andrew.

  5. Compose your web pages in a dedicated subdirectory in your local computer using FrontPage 2000. Please be sure that you name your main page "index.htm". If you feel compelled to use a different name for your main page, please let us know.

  6. Once you finish composing your web pages using FrontPage, FTP all your files and subdirectories to your team subdirectory in Andrew. The URL for your team page is:

    http://www.gsia.cmu.edu/andrew/course/45/870/team##/index.htm

where ## is your team number. For example, team 01's URL is: http://www.gsia.cmu.edu/andrew/course/45/870/team01/index.htm

  7. Please let us know if you have any problems or questions. Also, please let us know if there are any misspellings or errors in the table above.
