The Paper Bird

On the edge of a quiet town, there lived a boy named Leo who loved folding paper. He would sit by the window every evening, turning plain sheets into cranes, foxes, and dragons. But his favorite creation was a small paper bird with wide wings and a tilted head, as if it were listening.

One windy afternoon, Leo placed the paper bird on his windowsill. To his surprise, the breeze caught it—and instead of tumbling down, it fluttered up, circling once before gliding into the sky.

Leo chased after it, laughing, through the streets, past the bakery, past the park, until he reached the old oak at the edge of the forest. The bird landed gently on a low branch. As Leo reached out, it flapped again, beckoning him forward.

Deeper into the woods he followed, the world around him glowing golden with the late sun. Finally, the bird settled on a stone in a clearing. Leo touched it, and for a moment it felt warm, alive. Then, as if its message was delivered, the bird stilled—just paper once more.

Leo smiled. He didn’t need to know why. Sometimes, even the smallest creations can carry us to unexpected places. From that day on, whenever he folded paper, he wondered if the next bird might find its own sky too.
