HW1

1.64 moles of an ideal monatomic gas initially at 15.0 atm pressure and 300 K expands to a final pressure of 1.0 atm. The expansion can occur via any of four different pathways. For each, calculate the values of q, w, delta-U, and delta-H.

(i) isothermal and reversible

(ii) adiabatic and reversible

(iii) isothermal and irreversible

(iv) adiabatic and irreversible

For the irreversible processes, the expansion is against an external pressure of 1.0 atm.
