Homework
Fall 2007

Homework problems are assigned for Recitation sessions that occur on Tuesdays and Thursdays. See the calendar to locate scheduled Recitation sessions. Sometimes, following an exam, there will be no Recitation session scheduled.

The purpose of the homework assignments is for you to convince yourself that you understand the material at an appropriate level. Homeworks are not necessarily representative of what might appear on the hour-exams, especially since some assigned problems are indisputably trivial. The homeworks are neither graded nor collected except... one problem, selected in advance about each week, will be collected and graded. (It is linked each time by "HWx" below.) It will not be accepted late. You must work on the graded problem alone. Going to Recitation sessions to merely "listen" to course assistants work through solutions is a very unsatisfactory way of approaching homework problems. If you do not, at the very least, try to do them first, you will have no idea of where it is you might have difficulty when a subsequent exam questions must be answered under time restraints. The homework problems are actually a quite effective way of testing yourself on how much of the basic material you understand. You should simulate the testing experience by trying problems yourself. Problems listed as "Sx" are linked problems supplementary to those in the text.

[Note added: It is advised that you make a copy of homework solutions for your own use in preparing for quizzes and/or exams in the likely event that the graded submissions are not returned quickly.]
