The Carnegie Mellon University Pipes and Drums is one of the finest college pipe bands in the country. The band placed fourth in the 1999 Season, its first competing in Grade III, after placing in the top five of Grade IV three years running. Our members range from beginners to top Open competitors, freshmen to faculty, music majors to computer scientists. The School of Music at Carnegie Mellon offers the world's only performance major in bagpipe. Private lessons are available to all students and are taught by P/M Alasdair Gillies, who joined the faculty in 1997.
