Joint Funding Committee (JFC)
The Joint Funding Committee is responsible for all annual budgets of funded and recognized student organizations at Carnegie Mellon.
JFC consists of the Student Body Vice-President for Finance, seven representatives of the Undergraduate Student Senate,
and three representatives of the Graduate Student Assembly (GSA). The JFC works with organizations on their annual budgets and then presents them at a joint meeting of the GSA and Senate for approval.
Joint Funding Process Overview
During the Fall JFC Process, student organizations that have obtained Student Government recognition may apply for JFC funding eligibility. The Joint Funding Committee determines if the organization meets the eligibility requirements.
JFC recommends a slate of funded eligible organizations to Senate and GSA, whom must both approve the recommendations during a joint session.
During the Spring JFC Process, each funded organization will be assigned a representative on the Joint Funding Committee. The representatives and funded groups will meet to draft a JFC budget for next academic year. Funded student organizations will then
submit a JFC budget and subsidy request. JFC will review all submitted budgets and make a first round decision. Funded groups have an opportunity to appeal this decision. JFC will review appeal requests and then release a final recommendation of budgets to Senate and GSA, whom will meet at the end of the Spring Semester for a joint meeting.
Groups may appeal again during that meeting, provided a Senator or GSA rep submits an official amendment 48 hours before the joint meeting. During this joint meeting, Senate and GSA will then vote on the slate of final budgets for the next academic school year.
