Istanbul Hagia Sophia: Tiled mosaic of Mary & child with the emperor and empress to the sides. Mosaics cover the interior of Hagia Sophia, but since human images are forbidden in Islam, they were frescoed over by the Ottomans. Several, like this one, have been restored.
