I am pursing my PhD in Field Robotics under Dr. Red Whittaker. In particular, I am interested in robots for subterranean, space and other extreme environments. I work to develop novel sensors for exploring, measuring and visualizing with the goal of increasing robot survivability in these domains. I received my BS and MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon in 2006. I was born in Portland, Oregon.

Before robotics, I was active in semantics and programming languages and taught 15-212 for two years. I still hope to put a Standard ML robot in space (if my boss doesnt find out).

Some images of my research appear below. I generally enjoy being a pencil pusher, but I have been to several mines and construction projects. Sadly, I have never been to space.

Research Areas

Lambertian scene relighting

Colorized point clouds (surveyor in a mine)
