To gain a few inches at the back of the half-bath next to the pantry, I removed a wall that had been placed in front of an old stone flue no longer in use.

We discussed what to do with the now exposed stone wall: Make it funky by writing bathroom graffiti on it, or go for a high-art concept and paint a mural on it, e.g. some climbing vine of the kind we have in our garden. High art won over funk, and I started to paint morning glories in a style inspired by Japanese painted screens, which belong to my favorite art objects—my first foray into painting with acrylics.
