Laundry and dry cleaning services available on campus
04.19.04 12:40 am | by Whitney Hess

Did you know that there is a personal laundry service on campus? You can get your clothes color-sorted, washed, dried, and folded for you while you do those more important things — like sleep, play videogames, or chat on AIM. There are two services: Drop-Off and Pick-up/Delivery. The Drop-Off service requires that you bring your laundry to the laundry room located in the Margaret Morrison Plaza, beneath the sororities and next door to the Women’s Center. There’s a flat fee of $18 per bag if you use the laundry bags they provide — 22 inches by 28 inches, which hold approximately 20 pounds. If you use your own laundry bag or basket, the service will cost $1 per pound, at a minimum of 10 pounds.

The Pick-up/Delivery service is available for students who live on campus. Put your laundry outside your door, e-mail laundry@andrew.cmu.edu the night before you want it picked up (business days only), and your clothes will be returned to your door all crisp and clean. This service costs $23 per CMU laundry bag, or $1.25 per pound if you use your own bag.

Both services have a turnaround time of about 48 hours and require that you fill out an inventory sheet prior to service in order to assure that your wardrobe doesn’t diminish in the process. You can also note special care needed for any items.

There is also a dry cleaning service available. To arrange for these services, e-mail laundry@ or call 8-8878 (412-268-8878). Their cost per item is significantly less expensive than Footer’s on Forbes Avenue at Craig Street. For instance, blouses are $3.25 ($5.00 at Footer’s), dresses are $6.50 ($9.50 at Footer’s), a three-piece suit costs $8.00 ($13.50 at Footer’s), and trousers are $3.25 ($4.75 at Footer’s). You can view a full pricelist online at http://www.housing.cmu.edu/LaundryServices/. The turnaround time for dry cleaning is two days (one day if it’s urgent).

All laundry services can be paid for using cash or CampusXPress. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
