Approval of the Minutes: Minutes from 3/19 were tabled until further corrections can be made. Audience Participation: Howard Meisner, Spring Carnival chair, spoke about the upcoming activities. On April 12, the Morewood parking lot will close down, and the booths will be moved. Carnival will officially begin on April 18, when the CMU Skydiving Club will land on the Cut at about 5:00. After the opening ceremonies, there will be a game show-type event with students competing in a variety of stunts for money in the tent. On Friday, the Midway will open at about 11:00. A Beatles cover band is scheduled to play in the tent in the evening. On Saturday, the Midway will again open at about 11:00. At 3:00 the opening acts for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones will take the stage, and the Bosstones themselves should be on about 4:00. The festival will close with comedian Bob Nelson. Ex-Officio Reports: AB (Martin Dixon): This weekÕs movies are Crumb, Heat, and Halloween II. We are sponsoring the Mighty Mighty Bosstones at Carnival, and activities at the Fiesta de Primavera. GSO (Kristi Guillory): No report. Greek Council (Barbara Prevost): The 3 on 3 basketball tournament scheduled for this week has been postponed indefinitely. Faculty Senate (Barbara Prevost): No report. Student Affairs (Barbara Prevost): Applications for University Committees can be picked up at the Information Desk. The deadline has been extended and they are due by April 12. Student Activities (Barbara Prevost): No report. SDC (Michael Sperger): No report. President (Gina Schuyler): The University Parking Committee met recently and has decided to raise parking fees and fines on campus. Treasurer (Ray Ardire): If you know anyone who would like to work about 20 hours in the next couple of weeks helping with budgets, please contact me. Committee Reports: Academic Affairs (Matt Phelps): The results from the Academic Calendar survey are in. A majority of students responding felt that classes should not be held on Martin Luther King day and PresidentÕs day. We will have resolutions on these issues soon. Campus Affairs (Katie Hart): The Skibo survey is on the bboard, please take a look at it and send me your comments. The time capsule will be filled on the last day of classes. The quilt for the new University Center will also be on display. Funding and Recognition (Brian Mueller): Budgets are approximately half completed. We will have the packets ready to distribute by the April 16 meeting, and the vote is on April 23. Human Resources (Matt Bembenick): No report. Public Relations (Mike Rosenthal): The candidate profile forms are complete, and will be distributed on Thursday night. They will be due back on April 8. There is a revision to the election rules coming up tonight to allow these to be placed near the voting booth. An information session for prospective candidates will be held on April 3 at 8:00 in room 210 of the Student Center. There will be a debate between candidates on April 11 at 7 PM in the Adamson Wing. WRCT and the Tartan are involved, and we are looking for a faculty moderator. Chair (Brenden Mielke): If a proxy is being sent, the senator being represented must notify the chair by noon of the date of the meeting. The April 9 meeting will not be held in the Adamson Wing, the location has not been set at this time. Petitions are due by midnight on April 4. New Business from Committee: S96-029 - Amendment to the Election Rules: Addition to Paragraph 7, Òstandardized voter information packets as approved by a majority of Student Senate are excluded from these restrictions.Ó The packets are designed to inform voters about the candidates, and will be approved as a whole by the senate. Amend to Òtwo thirds majorityÓ: Since these are election rules, a two thirds majority should be necessary. Approved by hand vote, 16-0-3 Concerns were raised about the definition of ÒstandardizedÓ, senators felt that it was too vague. It was decided that an ad hoc committee should be formed to reword the amendment. Tabled by hand vote, 17-1-1. New Business from the Floor: Filling Vacancies - SIA: Joseph Yu He would like to increase minority involvement on campus, and feels that Senate is a good place to start. Passed by hand vote. Announcements: · Vacancies: 3 CFA, 2 CIT, 1 MCS, 1 MIS, 1 HNZ. · There will be a very short meeting on April 16, time and place to be announced.
