STUDENT SENATE Meeting of 13 February 1996 Roll was taken at 5:00 PM. Meeting was called to order at 5:05 PM. Approval of the Minutes: Minutes from 1/30 were approved. Ex-Officio Reports: AB (Martin Dixon): This week's movies are Beauty and the Beast, Heavenly Creatures, and Breakin II. If you are interested in joining the Activities Board, send mail to ab@andrew or contact Martin Dixon. GSO (Kristi Guillory): We are sponsoring a Ski Trip to Seven Springs on February 24, sign up at the Information Desk. We are also looking for ways to help out with Carnival. Greek Council (Jeff Polega): Greek Sing will be held on March 16. The Greek Council is selling candy hearts for the American Heart Association outside of Doherty Hall this week. Faculty Senate (Barbara Prevost): No report. Student Affairs (Barbara Prevost): Thanks to Gina Schuyler for her efforts in organizing the Voter Registration Drive. Some of the events for Black History Month include: A Soup and Substance Lecture on February 22, Prof. Joe Trotter on February 20, and performance poet B-Tree on February 27. There will be a Health and Fitness fair on February 14 in the Main Gym. The Student Activities Fair will be held on February 15 in the Drill Deck. We will be taking applications for University Committees for next fall until March 21. SDC (Katrina Lutz): There will be three movies shown in Scotland Yard for ValentineUs Day, Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the Tramp, and Cinderella. Saturday's movie is Money Train. The SDC and Residence Life Blood Drive will be held on February 27 in the West Wing TV Room. Applications for RAs are due on February 16. President (Gina Schuyler): No report. Treasurer (Ray Ardire): This week, the Funding and Recognition Committee will meet with the signers for all funded organizations. On March 16 and 17, organizations will be able to dispute their budget before the committee. Senate will vote on the budget packet on April 9. Committee Reports: Academic Affairs (Bryon Krug): We will start comparing textbook prices with other schools this week, and have the results in 2 or 3 weeks. Campus Affairs (Katherine Hart): We are looking into installing a time capsule near the new University Center. We will be meeting with Residence Life to discuss a Spirit Week before Carnival. We are looking into a MAC machine in the Margaret Morrison complex and complaints about the hours of dining facilities. Funding and Recognition (Brian Mueller): The Cigar Club, Babylon 5 Club, Field Hockey, SIAM, and Speedskating Club are coming up for recognition tonight. There is also a Special Allocation for the Robotics Club. Human Resources (Matt Bembenick): We are working on revising the elections section of the bylaws and senatorial perks. Public Relations (Matt Sheby): There was a Funding and Recognition ad in last week's Tartan. We are working with Health Services to produce educational information relating to health issues. The Senate column in the Tartan will be resuming shortly. Chair (Brenden Mielke): Every senator should have a new binder. Enclosed is the vision statement, a list of senators, and the bylaws. More inserts will be provided at future meetings.
