STUDENT SENATE Meeting of 23 January 1996 Roll was taken at 5:00 PM. Meeting was called to order at 5:05 PM. (SCS). Senators Absent: Adorni (CIT), Gupta (CIT), Hackney (MCS). Special Business: Election of Vice Chair - Bill Boyle: Passed by hand vote, 23-0. Approval of the Minutes: Minutes from 12/5 were approved. Ex-Officio Reports: AB (Martin Dixon): This week's movies are American Graffiti, To Die For, and The Toxic Avenger. If you are interested in joining the Activities Board, send mail to ab@andrew or contact Martin Dixon. GSO (Kristi Guillory): No report. Greek Council (Jeff Polega): Greek Sing will be held on March 16. The Greek Council is sponsoring a blood drive on January 30. Faculty Senate (Barbara Prevost): No report. Student Affairs (Barbara Prevost): Thanks to all senators who came to the retreat last week. University Center tours will be held next week, sign up in the Student Affairs office. SDC (Katrina Lutz): This week's movie is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Our first meeting is on January 24 at 7:00 in Doherty Hall 1112. All are welcome to attend. President (Gina Schuyler): No report. Treasurer (Ray Ardire): No report. Committee Reports: Academic Affairs (Bryon Krug): No report. Campus Affairs (Katherine Hart): This year we are looking to address student apathy and bringing a MAC Machine to Margaret Morrison Plaza. We also plan to finish up work with the bicycle rack committee. Funding and Recognition (Brian Mueller): This week the Tai Chi Club is coming up for non-funded recognition. Budget packets will be passed out on February 1, and will be due three weeks later. Human Resources (Matt Bembenick): We would like to thank those who came and helped out with the retreat. We are looking into ways to retain and recruit new senators and streamline the budget process. Public Relations (Michael Rosenthal): We sent letters to the college deans with the names and phone numbers of senators in their college to foster communication. We are looking for ways to fill vacancies, especially in the Heinz school. Chair (Brenden Mielke): Key cards are to all senators now. I will be having office hours periodically throughout the week, feel free to stop by the office. I am looking for senators to work with certain organizations closely throughout the year, let me know if you are interested. The final recommendations for the University Center were turned in last week. The retreat went well, thanks to all those involved. We will be having guest speakers at meetings throughout the se mester. Next meeting, Anne Shields will speak about the changes at the career center. New Business from Committee: Non - Funded Recognition of Tai Chi Club. Passed by hand vote, 23-0. New Business from the Floor: Approval of AIDS policy. Motion tabled by voice vote. Announcements: ~ Vacancies: 2 Heinz, 2 HSS, 1 CFA, 1 SIA, 1 Misc. ~ The University Ambassadors will be meeting on January 23 at 7:00 in the Mudge Lounge. ~ A Resident Assistant information meeting will be held on January 23 at 7:00 in West Wing and on January 24 at 8:30 in the Donner Reading Room. ~ A voter registration drive will be held on February 6, 7, 8.
