STUDENT SENATE Meeting of 11 April 1995 Roll was taken at 5:00 PM. Meeting was called to order at 5:05 PM. Senators Present: Adorni (CIT), Ardire (IM), Atkinson (CIT), Babyak (MCS), Benowitz (HSS), Bielke (CIT), Boyle (CFA), Coster (CIT), Demasi (MCS), Dircksen (He inz), Franklin (HSS), Gal-or (CIT), Gonzalez (MCS), Grant (Heinz), Holzman (CIT), Hudson (HSS), Hurwitz (HSS), Keir (CIT), Lin (CFA), Mielke (IM), Mueller (CIT) , Patel (CIT), Perry (CIT), Rand (SCS), Sharpe (HSS), Studarus (Misc), Tuxen (CFA). Senators Absent: Gallo (HSS), Talley (CFA). Approval of the Minutes: Minutes from 3/28 were approved. Ex-Officio Reports: AB (Martin Dixon): This week's movies are: Thursday: Barcelona Friday: Quiz Show Sunday: It Conquered the World Carnival went well. GSO (Oliver Schulte): A committee has been formed to look into the Housing Office policies for graduate students. Pitt has signed a deal with PAT to use their buses for transportation in Squirrel Hill, we are looking into a similar arrangement. A space in Building D will be set aside for a graduate lounge. Greek Council (Christine Halberstadt): The first annual Greek Awards Banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 7 at 5:00 PM. There will be a Blood Drive on April 25 from 1:00 - 6:45. There will be a women's leadership program on April 19 at 7:00 PM in the West Wing TV room. Faculty Senate (Anne Shields): At the last meeting, a committee on sexual harassment was created, and faculty were encouraged to participate in the community outreach program taking place soon. Student Affairs (Kevin Hughes): Applications for the Carnegie Mellon Leadership Institute can be picked up in the Student Affairs office. There will be a Last Lecture by Dr. Steven Klepper on April 18 at 5:00 in the Adamson Wing. SDC (Adam Davis): No report. President (Kami White): The Health Services surveys distributed last week are coming in. A survey will be distributed concerning the use of PAT buses for transportation to Shadyside and Squirrel Hill. An open meeting of the bboard censorship committee will be held sometime next week. Treasurer (Emma Gosden): Hockey and the Student Body President accounts remain frozen. A breakdown of this year's budget was then presented. Committee Reports: Academic Affairs (Brian Mueller): A survey about instigating a book of student evaluations of all undergraduate classes offered is being distributed. Campus Affairs (Brenden Mielke): We will have a meeting on April 27 with the Security Committee. We are still looking into the Greek Housing situation. Funding and Recognition (Merle Atkinson): A special allocation for the Thistle will be coming up today. Budgets will be coming up next week. Be sure to submit your amendments to Burt by Sunday. A copy of the original WRCT budget proposal is in the Senate office. Human Resources (Troy Benowitz): No report. Public Relations (Eduardo Gonzalez): Elections were held during Carnival. The turnout rate was 6.5%. We are looking for more ways to publicize the elections. Send comments/suggestions to eg2h. Chair (Burt Holzman): The next meeting will be on April 18 at 5:00 in Doherty Hall 2210. End-of-term reports are due from every committee chair by next week. A committee is being formed to discuss the split of graduate students' money between GSO and Senate. A Pittsburgh Student Government conference will be held o n April 20 at Duquesne University. 3 current senators are needed to represent Carnegie Mellon. New Business From Committee: S95.010 - Special Allocation to the Thistle: Passed viva voce. Announcements: % Vacancies: 2 CFA, 1 Heinz, 1 MCS, 2 GSIA, 1 SCS.
