STL, Patran Universal file, IDEAS Universal file
Engineering Discipline: CFD
Elements: Triangle, Quadrilateral, Tetrahedra, Hexahedra, Pyramid, Wedge (Prism)
Surface Meshing: Yes
Tri/Tet Method:
Quad/Hex Method: Grid Based
Starts with a block structured mesh that is then cut by the surface resulting in a predominantly hexahedral mesh with polyhedral cells were the hexahedral cells are cut by the surface. An extrusion layer is then generated to generate a mesh that is mainly perpendicular to the surface.
Element Sizing Method:
global user element size specification
Other Features: Comments:
The unique feature about samm is that it can produce polyhedral cells, cells with more than 6 faces. Think of a hex with a corner cut off or a hex with an edge cut off as two examples. Along the same lines, the surface mesher produces 3D pentagons and hexagons. Polyhedral cells require special features not generally found in CFD solvers. Currently the only CFD code supporting these cells is STAR-CD.
